Source Metals High Definition Plasma cutters can cut parts from carbon, alloy, stainless steel, and aluminum at a very attractive cost versus other plate processing methods.
Plasma cutting has no competition when it comes to cutting medium to thick sheets of high alloy steel and aluminum. The cutting process is consistently being improved. The main goal of these improvements is to increase cutting capacity and improve cut quality.

The Capabilities
- High definition plasma cutting from 20″ gauge to 2″ thick plate
- Parts produced from carbon, alloy, stainless steel and aluminum
- Standard Tolerance from ± .020
The Process
Plasma is a high temperature electrically conductive gas made up of positively and negatively charged particles.
The process of plasma cutting is using a beam of plasma (ionized gas) to heat the metal past it’s melting point. A plasma arc is compressed through a nozzle. Then the plasma torch moves across the material and blows away the melted material making a cut.
Super constricting the plasma jet produces an energy density two or three times greater than conventional plasma resulting in superior edge quality and squareness and the ability to hold much tighter tolerance.
This cutting process can cut any material that conducts electricity such as carbon, alloy, stainless steel, and aluminum.
The CNC plasma cutting process is divided into two types, conventional and high definition.
What is the difference?
Super constricting the plasma jet produces an energy density two or three times greater than conventional plasma resulting in superior edge quality and squareness and the ability to hold much tighter tolerance.
The Benefits
- Close tolerance
- Accurate cutting
- High speed cutting
- Near typical tolerances at a fraction of the cost of laser cut parts on OD/blank parts
